Oh, this was terrific, Barry. I really appreciated its layers of history, the world, and myth—these warriors for the environment! It’s a wonderful and magical story, full of heart, and the illustrations are superb. Thank you so much for sharing it with me.

This is a charming book for all ages, its gentle story engages the reader with fascinating characters, whilst teaching some basic nature-friendly gardening. The illustrations are beautiful, with much to look at, and hidden secrets that are discovered in the undergrowth.

This book has everything! It's a modern day fairy-tale that has gardening advice, environmental considerations, wildlife and whimsy. The author has created a story both with words and illustrations that pulls you in, captures your imagination and makes you want to go get to work in the garden.  A delightful book for adults and children alike.

One of the greatest joys in cultivating a garden is the process of exploration and discovery.  Barry Kirsch’s “The Fairy Robots of Restoration Cottage” is an imaginative tale about the adventures of botanical explorer and novice Master Gardener, Barry, as he ventures into the verdantly unexplainable.  A metaphor for the magical experience of working with the earth, this story indoctrinates readers into the contemplative school for ecological wisdom through a narrative approach that traverses us into a dreamy, mystical experience.  During an ordinary, daily turn about the Restoration Cottage garden early one morning, Barry realizes that his day will be anything but routine. To his surprise, the Master Gardener encounters an enchanted world deep within the lush plots of his grounds inhabited by Fairy Robots who move between an alternate reality and the Seminole County, FL cottage.

Throughout the story, Kirsch offers readers a glimpse into the challenges of cultivating and nurturing a healthy, vibrant flora oasis.  Readers learn with Barry about the importance of context for permaculture and the environmental conditions needed to support a healthy, raised plant box and garden plots. Although not written as a dialectic in the purest sense, Kirsch carefully maximizes the use of dialogue between the Master Gardener and individual Fairy Robots, each at varying levels of horticulture expertise, as a means to guide readers through all of the complexities that impact successful cultivation. In what feels like an inner, contemplative dialogue within Barry, readers bear witness to the evolution of his skills, wisdom, and even his sense of self as he journeys from novice Master Gardener towards more advanced practice.  Further, as if adding icing to the cake, Kirsch delivers the meaningful message that ultimately no one, no one thing, can grow alone.  It really does take a village to raise a master cultivator and a garden, even when that village encompasses a thriving hamlet of Fairy Robots.

This story is a wonderful read for anyone who enjoys mystery and mother earth.  It was an absolute delight to immerse myself in the world of Restoration Cottage and the Fairy Robots.

“The Fairy Robots…” by Barry Kirsch…Gift idea for self or someone attracted to S.T.E.A.M (Science, Tech, Engineering/ Entertainment), Arts, Math/ “MAGIC”).  Not what I typically read, but a healthy break. Enjoyable art illustrating an imaginative story with gardening tips. And created by a real live artist- not AI! If you have “little visitors” or bigger ones- leave it out for all to enjoy!
